How a bestselling author created a franchise that improves lives
What do you get when you cross a fitness expert, scholar, #1 international bestselling author and successful businessman?
You get franchise founder Scott Capelin.
Scott is a married father of 3 girls who is passionate about family, wellness and striving to help others live their best lives. He also owns inLIFE Wellness.
Scott’s bestselling book, ‘inShape inLove inSpired’, is a wonderful insight into the type of person he is. In it, he poured his heart and experience into tips and tools to guide people to pursue and achieve their best lives.

With such positivity and enthusiasm for living well, it’s no wonder Scott has seen such success in his career. He has built and sold multiple businesses throughout his two-decade career in health and fitness.
Off the corporate path and onto a wellness journey
The oldest of 4, Scott grew up in Miranda, NSW. He had a humble and happy upbringing, with a life centred around family and fitness.
Scott’s dad worked in an office for 45 years and he imagined he’d do the same. After completing a business degree specialising in marketing and legal studies, he worked at the head office of Woolworths.
Scott remembers being proud of what he’d achieved, but looking at his younger brother with admiration. “My brother was a personal trainer and I was inspired by him. He was happy, had control over his life and was changing lives.”
Scott loved the idea of changing people's lives, but wanted to do more. So, he merged his love of fitness with his passion for business.
A multi-site franchise owner with 5 locations
Scott constantly strives to improve. He said, “One of my core values as a human is ongoing personal and professional growth and development”.
Scott joined Vision Personal Training in 2000 and learned all about fitness, systems, marketing, leadership and business management across his 12 years associated with the brand. He became a franchisee, owning 5 studios which he sold in 2011.
Scott then opened a gym called Tribe Social Fitness. Drawing upon his 30,000+ hours of hands-on, face-to-face personal training and group exercise instruction, Scott created a unique class system that was wildly successful and enabled him to sell his business and look for the next endeavour.
Build your own venture
Scott took a year to learn even more about the industry he loved. He experienced highs and lows, but took every moment as a lesson and motivation to improve.
He worked with a leading company on brand building before inLIFE Wellness was born.
Scott said, “I started Pilates and witnessed remarkable changes in the way my body felt.” This formed the basis of his new passion project.
Having been a business coach in the fitness industry (and others) since 2008, Scott decided he could use this skill to enrich his offering.
“I thought, ‘why not be a franchisor to bottle and implement all my knowledge into a business model?’ I’ll get to coach and mentor people with my proven system.”
Follow your heart, but take your brains with you
Scott is big on visualisation. He focuses on his outcomes, visualises them and works towards that success.
His key focus is on helping people thrive in their own business, with inLIFE Wellness. He offers what he references as ‘an extremely cost-effective business model and a proven system that makes the franchises simple to operate’. There are now four inLIFE Wellness franchises within just a few short months of kick-off, and several more on the horizon.
Scott talks about the importance of bringing on the right team members.
“There is a fine line (when it comes to sourcing the right people), where you don't want someone to be a pushover, but you want them to respect the system. You need to be focused on customer service and your team. Respect the brand.”
Scott is hands on with his franchisees. He provides in depth training on running the franchise and can also train people to become Pilates instructors within 3 months.
His motto, “Always follow your heart, but take your brains with you. I want people to know they can follow their heart and they'll get the support. All the help you need is available if you just open yourself up to it.”
Scott’s wellness future
Since COVID-19, people are more conscious of wellness and self care than ever before.
Scott is on board driving the wellness train and his dream doesn’t stop here. He’s got a hunger for more.
He says, “My dream for the future is to create successful business owners, have a happy family, always be learning, growing, and developing, working with amazing like-minded people and having loads of fun along the way.
I would like to open inLIFE Wellness studios internationally and do work that my team and I are proud of. I want to create opportunities and experiences for people, and mentor and support people to become successful, fulfilled business owners, and live a life in line with their primary values while I do the same.
I want to have a farm just outside of Byron Bay with dogs and chickens and swim in the ocean every day and be super healthy and live until I am 110 years old.”
As many clearly reevaluate their life goals and purpose as we emerge from the pandemic, we suspect that the wellness train will continue to get more desirable into the future.
