From debt to franchise domination
James Trenerry, 34, has had quite the impressive business journey. The fitness enthusiast has transformed a $40,000 debt into a business generating a revenue stream of $2.5 million. After leaving the corporate life, James has spent the past six years becoming a successful franchise owner with KX Studios
What is KX?
KX Pilates is a high-performance style, offering fast-paced body toning in less than 50 minutes. Japanese for ‘change for the better’, the Kaizen eXperience is a philosophy that focuses on small and ongoing improvement.
What sparked the passion?
James took his passion for fitness with him when he moved to Sydney. He ran KX Pilates Bondi and three successful studios in Melbourne whilst helping to grow the brand in NSW, before returning to Adelaide to launch his own studio. James is now a successful franchise owner of three KX Studios in Adelaide.
"I've always had a special interest in health and fitness; I was the guy in the office who other employees would ask how to improve their own health,” he said.
Advice from his success
"Listen to your gut. Even if it's an inkling you should be doing something different with your life, you owe it to yourself,” he said.
Some of his other tips:
- Lower your spending and get your finances in order
- Gain a high level of knowledge in your chosen field
- Leverage the network that comes with being part of a franchise
- Build your business from the inside out - create internal systems, hire a team of specialists and become an avid marketer.
With plans to open a Henley Beach and Mile End KX Pilates, two more studios in the future and more, James is an inspirational example of a franchise owner setting his own success.
