Damien Kimber was born in Canberra and grew up in the picturesque coastal town of Ulladulla in NSW. 

A man who loves a concrete jungle, Damien was eager to move on and did so fresh out of high school, landing in Sydney.

Without friends or a social network, Damien said quite frankly,  “Sydney chewed me up and spat me out”. So before long he moved back to Canberra where his family had relocated and created a career in the pharmaceutical industry.

An entrepreneur at 20 years young

Damien started a business importing medical devices (mainly dressings) from Sweden. Without much finance behind him, he introduced premium products to Canberra, Sydney and Brisbane with so much success that another healthcare company made a generous offer and bought his business.

From here Damien ventured into pharmaceutical sales, study at university and a range of other jobs before he realised his heart wasn’t in it. 

He was searching for career fulfillment and little did he know but he was about to find it.

An idea presents itself

Damien was talking to a friend who had just moved into a new house and was inundated with pamphlets for services. This sparked an idea and Damien and his partner at the time started gathering information to set up a database of rental properties they could then sell to other businesses such as carpet cleaners and removalists. 

They couldn’t however get a cleaning company on board to buy the data and realised there was a huge gap in the rental cleaning market.

They spoke to their own house cleaner who agreed to start servicing rental properties and everything exploded from that point, with the start of A Clean Move.

Damien soon learned that Property Managers were the ideal focus of his customer service efforts. A tenant may pay the bill but the Property Managers recommend preferred services and providers.

Understanding the conceptual sales process was the ticket to success for Damien who ended up buying his partner out and building a list of repeat, happy customers.

Damien always excelled in the service industry and this was no exception.

All I had to do was recognise their value, give them some merchandise with our branding on it and make a lasting impression. Even through the height of COVID-19, A Clean Move powered ahead. When the Victorian Government stated that any services regarding moving house were an essential service, A Clean Move kept operating with social distancing and built a solid, loyal customer base.

The business has been made an exclusive partner with one of Melbourne’s major property groups, purely because of the relationships Damien has managed to build in the industry since the inception of his company.

Damien has a definite sense of humour and knows there is a benefit to the human nature call of ‘Netflix and chill’. 

He explained factually, “People’s laziness is in fact the key to our success. Inherently, people want to make better choices with their time. If they had a choice to clean the oven or watch a Netflix series, you know where you’ll find them.”

Damien already has plans to expand A Clean Move across metro Melbourne which is bursting with demand, before going national. 

He says, “Ultimately, the short, medium and long term goal is to be the go-to cleaning company for property management. We want to be the destination.”
