Walker's Doughnuts Franchise Q & A, with Peter Kamel, Area Developer QLD

Walker's Doughnut's franchise business are an Americana-inspired specialty doughnut brand out of Melbourne where they are growing fast.

Peter Kamel is originally an ex-franchisee, who with his brother, have taken the rights as Area Developers to grow the brand in the Queensland market.

"Hi, I'm Peter Kamel and I'm the Area Developer for Walker's Doughnuts in Queensland.

We are Walkers Doughnuts. We are a doughnut specialty store.

We offer fresh doughnuts every day using fresh creams and fresh ingredients.

We also sell coffees and donuts and hot dogs and a vast variety of items.

And we've got the rights to Queensland, so we're here to develop that brand here.

Locations in Queensland

So, currently we have a store in Riverlink, Ipswich, at Sunnybank Hills shopping town and here in Hyperdome Logan.

The factory here is...That's where we manufacture all the doughnuts and we deliver them daily, fresh to every store.

What I love

Oh, it's doughnuts. So we love making people happy and we love offering a doughnut here that is quality.

It's quality. People love the taste.

It's fresh to bite, it melts in your mouth and we. I love developing this brand.

I'm a part of Walker's and I love it.

The beginning

I started with Walkers, actually, as a franchisee in Melbourne many years ago and me and my business partner, we were good operators and the brand saw something in us and offered us this opportunity and that's what we've taken and it's been great to deal with.

Walker's have taken us under their wing. We love it.

Best-fit person as a franchisee

We want someone with the right personality and mindset.

You know, this is a busy cafe style business.

So, yes, we sell doughnuts, but, you know, there's a lot to it and we want someone on board, someone who wants to get in and deal with the customers and deal with their staff and run this place, you know, in the Walker's way.

Misconceptions

So a lot of donut brands out there, we think that their product is not fresh cream or their frozen dough, whereas ours is delivered fresh every day.

You'll never buy yesterday's doughnut in ours. And we use fresh cream.

That's a big item for us.

The future

We want to grow and develop the brand. We want everyone to know who Walker's donuts is.

It's really massive in Melbourne it's taken off and we're excited to see that, you know, within our three stores that we're already receiving that reception.

So we want to get it everywhere, every shopping centre, everyone, to have Walker's as their doughnuts.

Growth areas

We're starting with Brisbane because that's where the factory is. But there's so many opportunities.

You know, if there are remote areas, there is the potential to have a remote factory there or a, you know, a smaller manufacturing section. So we're starting with Brisbane and we're going to expand wherever the opportunity takes us."
